Rc Pile Cap Design - 3 Piles

The RC Pile cap design allows the user to design Pile cap structure as per BS 8110-1:1997 provisions. Following pictures shows the main view of the application, it consists of Tob Ribbon panel, Left menu Panel (List of Menus and Settings Summary) and Right diagram panel (Dynamic Diagram).

Settings Page

The settings page has the settings for material (Concrete & Reinforcement) properties as well as the major design options it controls the design data like Material Safety Factors.

Materials related settings can be accessed through Settings option from main menu. Following concrete related material properties and material factors can be input here.

Materials :
  1. Concrete grade (fcu) :Specify the concrete grade here based on the drop down provided for standard grades.
  2. Grade of Main reinforcement (fy) :Specify the grade of main reinforcement here. The range is between 200 to 600 N/mm2.
  3. Density of Concrete (γcon) :Specify the density of concrete here. The range is between 20 to 30 kN/m3
Material Safety Factors :
  1. Concrete in compression (γmc) :Specify the safety factor for concrete in compression here. The range is between 1 and 3.
  2. Safety factor for concrete in shear (γmcs) :Specify the safety factor for concrete in shear here. The range is between 1 and 3
  3. Safety factor for Reinforcement (γms) :Specify the safety factor for reinforcement here. The range is between 1 and 3.
Pile Cap

The Pile cap menu lets the user to specify the Section Geometry details.

  1. Pile Diameter (D) :Specify the pile diameter here. The range is between 100 to 2000 mm.
  2. Spacing of Piles (s) :Specify the spacing between piles here. The range is between 300 to 5000 mm.
  3. Pile cap Overhang (e) :Specify the pile cap overhang here. The range is between 50 to 1500 mm.
  4. Thickness of Pile cap (h) :Specify the thickness of pile cap here. The range is between 300 to 5000 mm.

Column

The Column menu lets the user to specify the Column Geometry details.


  1. Column Dimension (x) :Specify the column dimension along horizontal direction here. The range is between 150 to 2000 mm.
  2. Column Dimension (x) :Specify the column dimension along vertical direction here. The range is between 150 to 2000 mm.
  3. Eccentricity from Centroid of Pile cap (ex) :The eccentricity from centroid of pile cap - along horizontal direction is specified here. The range is between -1000 to 1000 mm, where sign indicates the direction of movement.
  4. Eccentricity from Centroid of Pile cap (ey) :The eccentricity from centroid of pile cap - along vertical direction is specified here. The range is between -1000 to 1000 mm, where sign indicates the direction of movement. The range is between -1000 to 1000 mm, where sign indicates the direction of movement.
Reinforcement
  1. Rebar :User has to provide the bar diameter here, based on the drop down provided for standard bar diameters, along with the spacing to be provided between the bars for per m length of the section. The range for spacing is between 20 to 400 mm.
  2. Clear Cover (Cot) :This option appears only when the Diameter of Rebar’s option is chosen. Specify the clear cover of reinforcement here. The range is between 15 to 80 mm.

Design Loads

The Design loads menu lets the user to provide the Imposed load and gravity load (Floor finish).

  1. Factored Axial Load (Fult) :Specify the factored axial load here. The range is between 50 to 15000 kN. This Load is taken into consideration for the design of reinforcement for Pile cap.
  2. Un-factored Axial Load (Fwork) :Specify the un-factored axial load here. The range is between 50 to 15000 kN. This Load is taken into consideration for the calculation of Pile reaction forces.
